Organization Territory Central Florida


The Alzheimer's Family Organization is a local 501(c) 3 not-for-profit charitable organization incorporated
in the State of Florida and governed by a local board of volunteer directors whose mission is
"People Helping Families", assisting caregivers and families who are affected by Alzheimer's disease
or related disorders. Our funding comes from private sources, individuals, corporations and fundraising events.

Services Provided By Our Organization

Respite Care Assistance Program

The Respite Care Assistance Program provides financial assistance to AFO members and their loved ones. The caregiver arranges their own respite care services using either in-home services provided through a home health agency or institutionally-based short term respite, such as adult day care, ALF or nursing home care. Contact our office for details.

Legal Help (H.E.L.P.) (Pasco Only)

HELP (Helping the Elderly with Legal Problems) is a program designed to assist those persons in need of legal assistance, who lack the access to, or means to obtain legal advice. Attorneys will be donating several hours a week and appointments may be limited, due to the need and demand for legal counsel. For further information and county availability, contact our office.

 

Support Groups

Our support groups are for family members, caregivers and others interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s disease and how to cope. The meetings are free and everyone is welcome. For program information and to verify meeting date and time, please use phone contacts listed under group name.

 

Do Not Resuscitate Order (DNRO) Forms  

A properly executed DNRO must be signed by the patient’s physician stating patient is terminal. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are directed to honor a DNRO and provide patient with comfort care only. The form must be with patient. DNRO forms are available at our office.

Pardon My Companion Card

This allows the caregiver the opportunity to offer a card containing information about Alzheimer’s disease and an explanation concerning any unusual behavior by the Alzheimer’s disease patient while in public.

Emergency Placement Directives

This service for our members will help ease the minds of caregivers. It is Emergency Placement Directives, which allows the caregiver the opportunity to ensure that, in the event of an emergency to the caregiver, the dementia patient will be cared for. 

Speakers Bureau

Alzheimer’s Family Organization members are available to speak to community groups, companies and interested parties.

Wanderer’s Identification Program

Helps identify wandering persons who suffer from memory loss and quickly returns them to their home or facility. Free to members.

 

Help-Line

The Help-Line provides a telephone volunteer service to persons wanting information about caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.

Resource Lists

AFO provides helpful resource lists of assistance services for our entire seven county coverage area. Contact our office to have a list sent to you.

 

Video Tapes and Books

For viewing at the Organization office or loaned out to members.

Training

Training provided for family caregivers and professional care providers for those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

 

Research

Encouraging and supporting research into causes, improved diagnosis, therapy, cures for and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

Emergency Evacuation Registration (Pasco Only)

A pre-arrangement for individuals with special needs to ensure safe evacuation prior to emergency situations.
